German fashion label Porsche Design has extending its product offerings to include timepieces manufactured completely in-house.
After four decades of collaborating with watchmaking partners, Porsche Design is welcoming this new chapter with the introduction of the Porsche Design Timepiece No.1 and the Porsche Design Chronograph Titanium Limited-Edition models. The first in-house watches to be designed and manufactured by Porsche Design are limited to 500 units per model.
On time
To create the watches, Porsche Design abided by the founding principles used by Professor Ferdinand Alexander Porsche for the brand’s first watch, the Chronograph I in 1972. Each was created with Professor Porsche’s principles in mind: optimal readability, technical perfection, the highest quality materials and a focus on functionality.
Porsche Design’s automatic chronographs were completely developed by the brand’s timepiece division in Solothurn, Switzerland, where they were also manufactured.
The timepieces feature a case made from titanium and is 42 millimeters in diameter. Timepiece No.1’s black case is not painted but coated through a special procedure to create the matte black finish durable.
As for technical features, both Porsche Design watches are outfitted with a mechanical Valjoux 7750 chronograph mechanism with a power reserve of 48-hours. The watches’ blackened sapphire crystal caseback allows the wearer to look at the inner workings of the timepiece, notably the energy-optimized Porsche Design rotor.

The numbered Porsche Design Timepiece No.1 features a black rubber strap while the Chronograph Titanium Limited-Edition is fit with a black calf leather strap. Both watches are waterproof up to depths of approximately 1,600 feet.
Porsche Design has looked to external partners to widen its product range in the past.
For instance, Porsche Design teamed with BlackBerry for a third time to create a new smartphone. The collaboration created a phone that combines Porsche Design’s style with BlackBerry’s technology to develop a new version of the BlackBerry 10 (see story).
